This post is by guest writer Jara Rowe.

Rapper of the five member girl group Fiestar, Yezi, released her solo debut album, Foresight Dreams. Yezi surprised everyone with her fierce and cutthroat performances on Unpretty Rapstar 2, and gained much attention and notoriety alike. She is the epitome of badass. Her determined attitude and rapping skills are no joke and gives her serious edge above other female idol rappers. Yezi was able to show off her unique charismatic charm in this hip hop album with a cohesive rebellious theme and tough sound throughout.

Track 1 – 사이다 (Cider)feel4

Yezi opens Foresight Dreams with a song addressing the haters. Cider is a hip hop track that starts with echoing EDM synth and finger snap beats that fade out once she begins rapping, which makes it easier to hear her lyrics clearly. Full of grungy synths pumping up the adrenaline, Yezi sarcastically apologizes to the doubters by saying “I’m sorry for those that said I couldn’t make it.” I’m impressed by her rapping skills that proves she can handle her own.

Track 2 – 달나라 (The Lunar World)feel4

Counterbalanced by a feminine sultry voice at certain points of the track, The Lunar World has a more rugged rap style. This track has a fun mix of dripping backtrack sounds and a beat that is easy to jam to. The Lunar World feels more mainstream with repetitive lyrics, but it’s easy to follow along to. Yezi does a great job at capturing the roughness while telling the haters to watch their mouths.

Track 3 – 쎄쎄쎄 (Sse Sse Sse)feel4

Yezi shares her solo debut with fellow Unpretty Rapstar 2 contestants. Sse Sse Sse exudes girl power and flaunts their friendship even though they once competed against one another. The contrast of the girls’ different vocals when switching back and forth between verses and when changing bars lends well to this EDM meets trap number.

Track 4 – 미친개 (Crazy Dog)feel5

Yezi’s performance of Crazy Dog on Unpretty Rapstar 2 is what made the other contestants begin to see her as a real threat. Fellow rapper San E teams up with Yezi to demonstrate the intense charm in this collaboration version, which I find to be the most memorable song on Foresight Dreams. This rap track is heavily influenced by trap music while using a common hip hop drum machine known as an 808. Crazy Dog is a no-holds-barred track with many sexual innuendos.

Track 5 – 사이다 (Cider) (Inst.)
