Twice continues their streak of commercial success with the release of their latest EP, TWICECoaster: LANE 1. Overall, this is a solid EP that has a wide array of songs that explore various genres, from bubbly pop songs to sentimental heartwarmers.
Track 1 – TT
As expected of Twice’s title tracks, TT is a number that displays Twice’s vivacious, cheerful vocals. A catchy earworm with a quirky beat that will bring out the party animal in you, this song is truly the one to be listening to during the Halloween season and beyond.
Track 2 – 1 to 10
1 to 10, on a basic level, is a typical and rather lackluster ballad about a girl’s love for her crush; it’s not really an interesting song to be listening to. Also, Twice’s vocals felt plain, monotonous, and lacked any personal touches.
Track 3 – Ponytail
Considering that Twice’s specialty is in the pop genre, I’m surprised that Ponytail has a rock foundation. This number is definitely different (and edgier) than the ones before. The juxtaposition of the low-pitched electric guitar and Twice’s infectious singing is the main reason why this song is one of the best songs in TWICECoaster: LANE 1.
Track 4 – Jelly Jelly
Although this ditty has the same, shallow meaning 1 to 10 has, the clapping riffs and upbeat rhythm make this song dangerously catchy. The cheekiness and liveliness of this song makes it the ideal one to be played during large events, such as a high school football game.
Track 5 – Pit-A-Pat
This cheeky, bouncy song is one that will definitely get you on your feet and dancing all night long. Twice’s bubbly singing, together with the medley of instruments used, spice this tune up many notches.
Track 6 – Next Page
Next Page takes a breather from the cheerful pop anthems Twice often puts out. It’s a song with hopeful vibes, a slow pace, and uplifting vocals, the trio to accompany you through rough times.
Track 7 – One In A Million
Like Next Page, One In A Million shows an emotional, serious side of Twice I haven’t seen in the previous tracks of this album. Their enlivening singing and the occasional high note undoubtedly end this album on a nice note.
