We all know that idols are multi-talented individuals. It takes a lot of athleticism and strength to be able to sing and dance simultaneously as often as idols do. Many have competitive instincts to fight and be recognized as the best in the Kpop world. But did you know that a competitive nature, athleticism, and strength came from being an athlete on a competitive level? Many idols are able to show how athletic they are with shows like Let’s Go! Dream Team and Idol Star Athletics Championship. With the summer Olympics right around the corner, we wanted to take time to point out some of the most athletic idols.
Jackson Wang
Let’s start the list off with an actual Olympian, Jackson. Jackson is a former national team fencer for Hong Kong, winning multiple medals. Jackson ranked 11th in the Summer Youth Olympics in 2010 as well as winning first place in 2011 during the Asian Junior Cadet Fencing Championships. Now we get to see Jackson still showing how athletic he is with his martial arts tricking as a member of GOT7.
UEE
The After School member has stated that she enjoys swimming often, and was in fact a reputable swimmer before debuting. In high school, UEE competed in the National Sports Festival in swimming and she’s shown her love for the sport on several variety shows. UEE even played the role of an Olympic swimmer in her drama, Fool’s Love.
Lee Min Hyuk
Next on the list is a well rounded idol, BTOB’s Minhyuk. Minhyuk didn’t come from much of an athletic background as he majored in music in school. But his love for working out and staying active makes him a natural athlete. Minhyuk was able to show many people just how athletic he is thanks to Idol Star Athletics Championship. He broke the high jump record in 2014 and won the gold medal for that event. Minhyuk also won gold in the 60m sprint event and has even been crowned as the MVP.
Jeon Jung Kook
Jungkook allows us to see his athleticism through his dance moves while performing with BTS. Jungkook is known to be good at handball and recently showed his rock climbing skills in Flower Boy Bromance which he’s appearing in with Minwoo from Shinhwa. The golden maknae is even acknowledged by his fellow group members as being good at sports. In fact, if it weren’t for Jungkook, BTS wouldn’t have won the 400 meter relay during Idol Star Athletics Championship in 2015.
Yoon Doo Joon
Beast’s leader, Doojoon, has serious love for soccer. He played while he was in high school and continues to play soccer in his free time. Doojoon’s soccer skills have allowed him to participate in Idol Futsal World Cup and Running Man World Cup Special. He is also an honorary ambassador of K-League, South Korea’s professional association football league.
Eunhyuk
This Super Junior member may not have competed in sports pre-debut, but Eunhyuk definitely has a natural athletic sense. Eunhyuk was a regular on Let’s Go! Dream Team where he became the team’s ace. Through several variety programs, he has shown that he is very athletic, speedy, and even has some natural snowboarding skills.
Krystal Jung
Krystal often says that her athletic abilities are all thanks to her genes. Krystal proved that she is a natural at sports when she broke the high jump record on Let’s Go! Dream Team in 2010. She was also one of ten celebrity contestants to participate on Kiss and Cry, a figure skating survival show hosted by Kim Yuna. Not only did Krystal show how athletic she really is through the program, but also how competitive she can be by winning first place.
