On the heels of their hit album Odd, the shining boys of SHINee release another brilliant effort, Married to the Music. Married to the Music is a repackage of Odd with four additional songs that are reviewed here. The group’s journey in seeking musical progression continues with the exploration of more genres, more mature lyrics, and more challenging vocals.
Track 1 – Married to the Music
Title song Married to the Music is a classic SHINee-esque tune. It’s upbeat, has hard hitting rhythms, and gives off a throwback disco feel that can make anyone want to dance along. The choreography is also unique and visually appealing, which partners well with the music.
Track 2 – Savior
Savior is a danceable EDM number that also highlights the group’s wide vocal range. I’m a big fan of the background accents that add an interesting and modern feel to the progression of the song. SHINee explains to a girl that she is their savior in this song, even stating that she’s a great gift. But SHINee, this song is a great gift!
Track 10 – Hold You
Hold You is another synth heavy dance pop song where you can’t help but move along to the beat. Except that it’s more of a mid-tempo R&B flavored track that flaunts the rappers and vocalists equally. I am a definite fan of this groovy style on SHINee.
Track 13 – Chocolate
Chocolate‘s modern R&B melody and vocal harmonies are sweet and smooth sounding just like the name suggests. The boys are comparing a girl that they are interested in to chocolate. And who doesn’t like chocolate?
