Time to stroll down the sentimental lane as we listen to Park Yoo Chun of JYJ‘s first solo mini-album, How Much Love Do You Have in Your Wallet. The album showcases a serene mood and soothing music style that is quite different from what we usually hear from JYJ. Full of heart-warming ballad songs, How Much Love Do You Have in Your Wallet will be your perfect companion during cold wintery days. Prepare your tissues as we hop on this emotional ride with Yoo Chun.
(Album, Full of Memories)
A full instrumental song with only the sad piano played by Yuhki Kuramoto, a well-known Japanese composer and pianist. Though no words are expressed directly, Album, Full of Memories sets the sentimental mood of the listener, as if to help you get lost in your own thoughts and memories. The piece is heartfelt and relaxing to listen to at the same time.
(Unwound Heart)
After the sensational piano performance comes an understated ballad track accompanied by lonely guitar sounds that complement Yoo Chun’s deep and sweet voice. Though I’m a fan of ballads, Unwound Heart didn’t quite stand out to me as the melody felt too similar all throughout the song.
(How Much Love Do You Have In Your Wallet)
With simple piano, light acoustic guitar strings, and romantic violin, Yoo Chun’s slightly higher pitched vocals matched the mood of the song perfectly. The sad and sweet melody pierced through my heart and left an imprint as I listened to How Much Love Do You Have In Your Wallet. The comforting lyrics tells us to stay positive about life despite what’s happening around us.
(Until the Last Album)
A track that is a bit different from the previous ones in this album, Until the Last Album is a mid-tempo ballad number with acoustic guitar, thick base tones, and vintage organ sounds that add a laid-back lounge vibe to the song. I really like the rhythm change during the chorus and the dreamy harmony between Yozo’s light and airy voice with Yoo Chun’s low and romantic voice.
(Walk With Her in Spring)
After all the heart-warming, tear-inducing ballad tunes, Walk With Her in Spring closes the album as a slightly more powerful soft rock ballad with modern electric guitar accompaniment. The song was recorded live from the JYJ Tokyo Dome Concert in 2013. It puts a smile on my face thanks to the carefree melody and Yoo Chun’s misty high notes.
(How Much Love Do You Have In Your Wallet) (Inst.)
