Mamamoo returns with a massive bang with their latest EP Memory. As always, Mamamoo never fails to impress, with their alluring singing and sheer flexibility. Memory is an album that contains so many different, interesting tracks that are able to fully display the different sides of life.

Track 1 – 그리고 그리고 그려봐 (Memory)feel4

Title track and album opener Memory has a lounge-like, slow-paced air with a sparse beat. This allows Mamamoo’s sentimental vocals to take the full spotlight, making for an emotional but calming song.

Track 2 – Decalcomanie (데칼코마니)feel5

Decalcomanie is a song with a jazz foundation, with powerful drum beats and vigorous piano rounds. In contrast to Memory showing the sentimental side of Mamamoo, Decalcomanie shows the energetic side of them, which, in my opinion, is more well-executed. The girls’ distinctive and dynamic vocals show their full colors here, making for an interesting and fun listen.

Track 3 – New Yorkfeel4

The guitar riffs at the beginning of the song will catch your attention, preparing you for the infectious energy that will ensue. New York, like Decalcomanie, is a lively song, but it’s medium-paced as well. The girls’ vibrant singing creates perfect synergy with the laid-back beat. New York is a song that you will come back to if you are having a good time.

Track 4 – Moderatofeel4

Like the title suggests, Moderato is a moderately fast track with flair and poshness. The girls are able to make full use of their voices, and are able to fill their voices with the richness that is required for this track. The various instruments in the background act as embellishments and ornaments to their singing. Moderato is, overall, a pleasant, radio-friendly R&B song.

Track 5 – Angelfeel3

Angel is a dreamlike, delicate ballad that allows the listener to take a respite from the high energy of the previous tracks. Despite Solar and Wheein’s angelic voices, the song is a tad too plain and boring. Also, since ballads are Mamamoo’s specialty, this song is not really taking any risks.

Track 6 – Dab Dabfeel4

The piano riff at the start of Dab Dab is definitely an attention-grabber. Dab Dab is a fast-paced jazz song with hints of dance music. When combined with Hwasa’s and Moonbyul’s charisma, this song is one that should not be missed. Although jazz is a genre that Mamamoo is really proficient at, and it’s slightly disappointing that Hwasa and Moonbyul are using this same genre for this song, their enthusiasm more than make up for it.

Track 7 – I Love Too (놓지 않을게)feel4

I Love Too is an uplifting, touching, and slightly playful ballad. This number has a great flow, and brings about a feeling of bliss within the listener. The rough rap in this song is in harmony with the girls’ smooth singing. This juxtaposition is what makes I Love Too a success.

Track 8 – Woo Hoo (기대해도 좋은 날)feel5

The final track of Memory is a feel-good, whimsical one. The relaxed beat, and Mamamoo’s blithe singing, are able to set the mood for this retro-influenced number. Like New York, Woo Hoo is a song that you might listen to if you feel like partying all night long.
