These days, the majority of the Kpop industry gravitates towards a combination of fierce make-up, suggestive outfits, and seductive choreography. But some groups prove that one does not have to rely on daring outfits and a sexy image to stand out. The eight girls of Lovelyz is a good example. Woollim’s latest girl group is back with their first single album Lovelinus that has innocence written all over it. Though not the most original or standout album, Lovelinus does showcase Lovelyz’s fresh vocals, clean image, and fun melodies that anyone can sing along to.
Track 1 – 그대에게 (For You)
For You is the title song of Lovelinus. The upbeat melody and pure vocals will surely get you into a good mood when you’re feeling down, just like the song implies. With a peppy beat and joyful guitar accompaniment, ForYou is the perfect road trip partner. But unfortunately, I find it rather similar to Lovelyz’s previous songs like Candy Jelly Love and Hi, so it’s not hugely noteworthy.
Track 2 – Circle
Circle has to be my favorite track in the album. It’s a slow to mid-tempo ballad with soothing vocals that can warm everyone’s cold winter days. The verse and chorus are easy to remember, and the dreamy guitar and piano sounds in the background work harmoniously with Lovelyz’s voices. I can imagine listening to Circle on a rainy day with a cup of hot chocolate in my hands by the window, so I give it two thumbs up.
Track 3 – Bebe
Like the title track For You, BeBe is a cheery song with fast tempo that can energize anyone. It’s got a fairly pleasant tune, but there’s one part of the chorus that I think would have been even better if it was changed to match the rhythm of the song. Also, oddly enough, the backbeat and chorus composition remind me of Gee by Girls’ Generation.
