Loona is probably best known for the humongous budget used to create the group. They’ve also drum up anticipation by revealing one group member to the public each month. Although not all of the members have been made known, the first subunit of Loona, Loona 1/3, has already released an album titled Love&Live. Considering the budget and resources, Love&Live isn’t exactly the cream of the crop kind of album, with minor spotty song production and selection, but otherwise a cheerful listen.
Track 1 – Into The New Heart
Into The New Heart acts as a powerful (albeit short) beginning, hinting at more wonderful tracks to come. The rock influence in this ditty will definitely give listeners the image that Loona 1/3 will be a unique group.
Track 2 – 지금, 좋아해 (Love&Live)
The impactful beat at the beginning of this track, reminiscent of the strong ballads of GFriend and Apink, raised my expectations. However, Love&Live quickly downgrades to a happy-go-lucky pop song that is far too saccharine for my taste. The high notes at the end, which were meant to act as a climax, don’t really add much meaning to the track either.
Track 3 – You and Me Together
You and Me Together is a dance number with a retro melody to support it. However, the girls’ voices are what brings it down. Their wispy and light singing are simply not fit to tackle such a sophisticated song, coming off as as clashing to listeners.
Track 4 – Fairy Tale
Fairy Tale is definitely more able to complement Loona 1/3’s soft and fragile personalities, with a muted yet posh sound. Evocative piano chords and various other instruments collide together to form candy for the ears and mind.
Track 5 – 3월을 기다려 (Valentine Girl)
Finally, quickening the pace is a vibrant and lively pop track. Although not exceeding expectations in terms of creativity, when compared to the title track, Valentine Girl is agreeable and satisfying. Besides, it’s sure to lighten the hearts of listeners.
