Jeon Ji Yoon, former 4Minute member and lead vocalist, just made her solo debut with an album titled Day & Night under new management. Ji Yoon’s known for her powerful vocals, hip hop swagger, and versatility across many music genres. Ready to make a name for herself, Ji Yoon steps up her game and brings us two fresh tracks that allow her unique charm to shine through.

Track 1 – 내가 해 (I Do)feel5

Title track I Do is a continuation of Ji Yoon’s famous rap meme during her Unpretty Rapstar days. But it also symbolizes her determination in branching out and making it on her own. This song is a modern R&B ballad that begins with beautiful piano notes and finger snap beats. The melody is well constructed in a minor key and the chorus is immediate attention-grabbing. Ji Yoon sings it rather relaxed with a hint of wistfulness, but bends her tone at the right places to add extra interest.

Track 2 – 자석 (Magnet)feel3

The next song on Day & Night takes a different direction. Magnet’s backbeat and rhythm falls squarely in the hip pop camp, yet layers on a smoother melody and sweeter vocals to balance out the strong beat. Unfortunately, this makes the otherwise pleasant song rather safe and less memorable. Ji Yoon does manage to showcase her rap skills along with Show Me the Money contestant rapper Olltii.
