Giriboy released his first EP of 2017 with 5 Songs For Initiation. Once a Show Me the Money contestant, he’s now a rising Korean hip hop producer under Just Music. 5 Songs For Initiation lets Giriboy continue to hold his throne as the king of wordplay. This EP is full of experimental sounds and witty lyrics that allows for a one-of-a-kind soundscape.
Track 1 – 고속 (Express Highway)
5 Songs For Initiation kicks off with a lighthearted old school hip hop vibe. Lots of keyboards and snazzy synths give Express Highway a chilled feeling. Although the song sounds somewhat fun, Giriboy is rapping about his loneliness as he compares a breakup to a road trip with issues.
Track 2 – 섞어 (Mix It Ip)
Keeping the chilled vibe, Mix It Ip is next. This track is kicked off with an unique synth beat giving it its own color. The effortless rapping plays with the instrumental very well. Extra layers are added in during the bridge and then levels back down during the chorus adding more interest for listeners. All elements of Mix It Ip combine together to make a pleasing sound.
Track 3 – 농밀 (Intimate)
Mad Clown, OLNL, and Han Yo Han team up with Giriboy to bring listeners a guitar heavy hip hop track. Intimate starts off with an electric guitar solo with a hint of jazz feel. The rap flows are drawn out to accentuate the backtrack. The lyrical content lives up to the track title as the lyrics are fairly suggestive.
Track 4 – 우주 Space (Cosmicboy Remix)
Space is a previously released track, but Cosmicboy adds his own spin on it with a remix. Giriboy shows his more experimental side with this track. This is a fun song with a catchy groove that makes you feel like you are actually in space with an alien rapping for you.
Track 5 – 암인 (I’m In) (Yunji Remix)
The second of two remixes, I’m In closes out 5 Songs For Initiation. This track continues the abstract vibe with soft echoes throughout. Giriboy is full of mischief in this song as he announces ‘I’m in trouble.”
