Top idol group EXO is back again to herald their innocent love and tender affection with a winter special album, Sing For You. And I’m happy to report that it’s one of the boys’ best work of 2015. This charming album, containing nothing but hit songs with emotional depth, is sure to melt the hearts of many in this snow-filled season.

Track 1 – 불공평해 (Unfair)feel4

Unfair kicks off the album with a trendy and bright spirit. This medium tempo pop song features lighthearted drum beats, cheerful keyboard melody, and a funky synth that sounds like horse happily galloping along. EXO’s’ harmonious and fun vocals bring out the charm of this love song thoroughly.

Track 2 – Sing For Youfeel5

Without much embellishment, title song Sing For You is a simple acoustic guitar backed pop ballad track with a beautiful, heart-melting melody. EXO uses their sweet and crystal clear voices to wistfully express their hidden love confessions. Sing For You is an emotional piece and a sparkling jewel not to be missed this winter.

Track 3 – Girl x Friendfeel5

Girl x Friend tells the story of a boy who wants to be more than just friends with his secret crush. EXO precisely conveys affection and longing through this groovy mid-tempo R&B hip hop number. The bouncy piano chords, playful jingles, and jovial drum beats all add to the nervous yet tingling feelings of this witty track.

Track 4 –  발자국 (On The Snow)feel3

On The Snow is a fusion pop ballad tune with a hint of jazz flavor thanks to the big band trumpets and hip hop rhythms. Though the song comes off as laid-back, it’s actually describing the sad yearning towards restoring the relationship with a lover who’s gone far away. The boys’ vocals are a pleasure to listen to as usual, but the melody is not quite as hooky as I would have liked.

Track 5 – Lightsaberfeel4

Lightsaber is perhaps the only “odd one out” track on the album that doesn’t quite follow the silky smooth love theme. As a special collaboration song made for the new Star Wars movie, Lightsaber is most definitely a futuristic sounding, intense EDM track with pounding beats and edgy synths. Despite not fitting well into the album overall, it’s a catchy number with a powerful fast rap section that thoroughly impressed me.
