To celebrate the arrival of winter, EXO released their third winter special album For Life. This EP contains a wide variety of songs that are perfect to dwell on as the snow season goes by, ranging from ballads that are soft on the ears to fierce and energetic hip-hop tracks to get you grooving. Though largely homogenous, EXO makes up for it with heartfelt vocal delivery.
Track 1 – For Life
The namesake of the album, For Life is a typical, slow ballad, with EXO’s signature emotion. Unfortunately, this track is a little bit too dull, because there’s not much risk taken here, and the melody just seems to drone on and on. The only thing that made me continue to listen to it is EXO’s sweet vocals.
Track 2 – Falling For You
Being more upbeat and groovy, Falling For You definitely makes me fall for EXO. This number is more pleasurable than For Life, largely due to the fact that boys’ potent voices are used more effectively here. Falling For You is the kind of song to put on to feel warm on a cold winter day.
Track 3 – What I Want for Christmas
Like Falling For You, What I Want for Christmas is a lovely, romantic song that is sure to lift spirits. The soulful vocals that are put on display here goes well with the minimally decorated beat. This is a great accompaniment to Falling For You.
Track 4 – Twenty Four
Making an unexpected turn away from the lovey-dovey mood of the previous songs, Twenty Four goes hard. The hip hop-inspired beat and the boys’ attractive vocal delivery will surely get you swooning. This is truly a fresh breath to the otherwise uniform album.
Track 5 – Winter Heat
Lastly, Winter Heat is a heartwarming and buoyant track. However, the chorus did not match with the verses, so the song felt jarring to listen to. Also, there weren’t really many things that differentiated Winter Heat from other ballads on this album, such as For Life.
