The amazing girl group that brought us Up and Down, one of the catchiest Kpop songs ever made, returns with their first full length album that’ll make you want to move sometimes and cry other times. EXID‘s new album, Street, is what I’d like to call “a war in love” album as all the songs talk about relationship highs and lows.
Track 1 – 데려다줄래 (Give Me a Walk Home)
Give Me a Walk Home is a very nice opening to Street, as the girls sing about wanting to go on a walk as opposed to a drive with a special person. The song has a 90s hip hop feel, much like BTS’ Jump, and has a laid-back, groovy feel that I enjoy immensely.
Track 2 – L.I.E
L.I.E is an electro hip hop number that talks about having a lover who lies and not wanting anything to do with him anymore. The lyrics are very expressive, and the beat keeps you moving your neck to the rhythm. It’s a song that grows on you after a few listens.
Track 3 – 알면서 (Knowingly)
Knowingly is an R&B pop track that talks about loving a man regardless of his faults and inadequacies. I found it hard to pay attention to the song as it was not particularly gripping. But what it lacked in melody, it more than made up for with lyrics.
Track 4 – Hello
The first solo track on Street, done by Hani, is a slow R&B number that talks about trying to get over a recent breakup. Hani sings some very relatable lyrics about trying to get over someone and being unable to, so she asks him to come back to her instead. The calming feel of Hani’s voice makes Hello even more poignant.
Track 5 – Cream
In Cream, the girl compare an object of their affection to cream because it is addictive and it ruins their body. The track is a relaxing pop number with lovely vocals laid over. It’s yet another song that grows on you after a few listens.
Track 6 – 3%
This track is a solo track by Solji, and she does great justice to this song with her strong, sultry voice. 3% is an acoustic ballad talking about how much a lover has changed. Solji shows her despair with her lyrics as she compares the person now to how he used to be before.
Track 7 – Only One
Only One is a synthpop track that starts out slow and then builds up. I especially liked the rap part in this song, and then the chorus. The message of the song is in the title; the girls talk about remembering and missing a lost love whom they feel is the only one for them. Only One‘s sober lyrics nicely contradict the fast paced beats that makes you want to move your body.
Track 8 – 당연해 (Of Course)
Of Course is a pop track that talks about being taken for granted. In the song, the girls ask themselves why they are still putting up with the maltreatment and decide to end the relationship. Though it has extremely relatable lyrics, Of Course does not exactly leave an impression.
Track 9 – 냠냠쩝쩝 (Are You Hungry)
Are You Hungry basically asks the question in its title. The girls encourage a loved one who doesn’t eat by saying they have made food, and “are you hungry?”. In this track, EXID puts their ability for creating memorable songs to use here. This upbeat electro pop track is both extremely catchy and funny. You’ll find yourself jumping along to it within seconds.
Track 10 – 여름, 가을, 겨울, 봄 (Summer, Fall, Winter, Spring)
This is a slow paced R&B track that talks about being grateful for the support and warmth of a lover who stays constant like all the seasons. Summer, Fall, Winter, Spring is a mellow and calming song that makes you think about someone close to your heart.
Track 11 – Good
Good talks about pretending to be fine with each other in a relationship when in reality, you’re both tired of each other. It’s a funk tune with some pop infusion, and while the lyrics are not very cheery, the beat makes you want to move.
Track 12 – Hot Pink (Remix)
The remix version of Hot Pink is more laid back with a funky feel. In the song the girls worry that the object of their affections can’t see them in their true forms clearly as they are — vivid, hot pink. The bass line especially makes this song enjoyable.
Track 13 – L.I.E (Jambini Mix)
Here we have a track that is basically a reggae version of the second track of Street. For me, the groovy and buoyant reggae influence actually make it more audibly pleasing than the original.
