After experiencing a rapid increase in popularity with the song On The Road, DIA gathers momentum with their latest EP Spell this fall. Spell is largely Harry Potter-influenced, with mystic and fascinating melodies that will keep listeners coming back to it for more. Spell is an album that is able to display DIA’s versatility across many genres, ranging from pop to ballad, and from hip hop to R&B.

Track 1 – 7과 4분의3 (널+만나러+가는+길)feel2

This introduction to the album is one that tries to imbue in the listener mystic, Halloween vibes, but fails to do so. It’s a mundane song with no outstanding elements to it, and DIA’s vocals do not shine their brightest here.

Track 2 – Mr. Potterfeel5

Unlike the previous track of Spell, Mr. Potter is more able to inspire the feeling of a Halloween party night within the listener. The quirky beat, together with the girls’ bubbly, youthful singing, truly makes a statement. Mr. Potter is a song that is irritatingly catchy, so it’s worthy of being a title track that will stick in the minds of listeners.

Track 3 – 꽃, 바람 그리고 너 (Flower, Wind and You)feel4

Flower, Wind, and You is a number that switches gears from the previous two songs, being more slow, relaxed and less loud to the ears. Their heartfelt singing brings out a feeling of wistfulness and longing. Huihyeon’s rap, despite being booming, is unexpectedly able to blend into the song very well and gives it uniqueness. The calming effect of the instruments used in this number makes it a great song to listen to during rough times.

Track 4 – 화가 (Artist)feel5

Artist is definitely not a cutesy, innocent song like the previous ones. It’s a track with “bad girl” vibes that puts Huihyeon’s charisma on full display. The vociferous beat, together with Huihyeon’s deep, clamorous rap, makes this number stand out from the rest in this album. If you’re not a fan of the bubbly songs DIA often puts out, Artist might be one that will get you interested in them.

Track 5 – 더럽 (The Love)feel4

This final track of Spell, The Love, is a sentimental, medium-paced ditty that is guaranteed to bring your spirits up. The hopeful vibes this song emits will crack a smile on your face after a hard day of work or school. No track from this album is more suitable to close it off than this tune.
