With eight years of experience under their belt, and an impressive amount of chart-topping songs, Davichi has just recently released the extended play 50 X Half. 50 X Half will never fail to astound you with Davichi’s heartfelt, excellent vocals, but unfortunately it comes at the cost of originality. Although this album is not exactly the most revolutionary one out there, 50 X Half is an album worth a few thoughts and listens.
Track 1 – 가을의 밤 (Autumn Night)
Autumn Night has a leisurely air with a woeful atmosphere. It’s soft to the ears, so it’s great for when you’re having the blues or want a break from the loudness of recent Kpop anthems. I can imagine myself listening to this while staring out of my window on a rainy day.
Track 2 – 받는 사랑이 주는 사랑에게 (Love Is to Give)
Like Autumn Night, Love Is To Give flaunts Davichi’s emotional vocals, bringing about a wave of sadness and tenderness in the listener. I was expecting a little more though, and it’s far too similar to Autumn Night.
Track 3 – 내 옆에 그대인 걸 (Beside Me)
The title track of this album, Beside Me, is a haunting tune. Davichi is able to fully showcase their sonorous, full vocals here. Beside Me is an aurally pleasing track, with a weird, mystical juxtaposition of loudness and softness. This is an unconventional song, and definitely an unforgettable one.
Track 4 – PET
Unlike the previous songs, PET has more of a pop foundation, with cheerful guitar plucks and playful violin pizzicatos. Davichi’s bubbly vocals give this song optimistic, buoyant vibes to spice it up. This is the song to go to when you are stressed out by anything that has happened in your life.
Track 5 – 그런 적 있나요 (Have You Ever Been Like That)
Have You Ever Been Like That is the quintessential ballad, with the typical piano, drums, and violin which were used in the first two tracks of this album. Because of this, it might take quite a bit of effort to get through this song. Fortunately, the duo were able to effectively utilize their heart-rending singing here, making this a suitable (but lackadaisical) ending to this album.
Track 6 – 내 옆에 그대인 걸 (Beside Me) (Inst.)
