With their number one ranking on Japan’s Tower Record Charts, Dal Shabet is back as a four member act to commemorate their five-year-anniversary since debut. Their latest album, Naturalness, exudes a cute and playful vibe after the sexy and seductive album, Joker Is Alive. True to its title, the album showcases Dal Shabet’s natural and beautiful vocals with four solo tracks for each member in addition to two group tracks. Naturalness symbolizes a new beginning and fresh start for the group.

Track 1 – 지긋이 (Stay With You)feel4

Album opener Stay With You is a ballad song with an amazing grand piano accompaniment, a bit of light electric guitar, and fairytale like chimes. Besides the dramatic chorus, I really like the gentle harmonies of the girls’ pure voices. Their vocals match so well that it sends me goosebumps everytime they sing together.

Track 2 – 너 같은 (Someone Like U)feel5

The title track, Someone Like U uses classic 80s/90s drum rolls and electric guitar melody to fill you with nostalgia of that era. Produced by the well-known Brave Brothers, this song is a funky and energetic dance pop song with a cheerful beat. Taking a break from their sexy image, I’m really glad that Dal Shabet is back to having some retro fun.

Track 3 – 머리부터 발끝까지 (From Head to Toe)feel4

From Head to Toe starts off with a colorful arrangement of heavy synths, brass sounds, and bouncy beats that complement Subin’s powerful voice. It’s a super fun and groovy pop song that makes you want to get on your feet and dance to the beat. I especially like the clapping sounds before the chorus.

Track 4 – 착한 남자 (Good Man)feel4

Good Man is a pop number with a little bit of everything — finger snap beats, light synths, dreamy piano, and an occasional appearance of the electric guitar. Sims’ tough rap counterbalances Serri’s sweet vocals, making Good Man sound like a sweet meets spicy combo.

Track 5 – Dreams Come Truefeel4

Dreams Come True is a calming acoustic rock ballad tune composed using soft drum beats, mellow piano, and gentle guitar strings. It’s a song made to melt your hearts. I like Ah Young’s airy high notes and I found the chorus memorable as I started humming along to it shortly after listening to the song.

Track 6 – 사랑한다고 해서 (Because You Said You Love Me)feel3

Naturalness ends with Woohee’s solo song, Because You Said You Love Me. It’s a mid-tempo ballad song with a strong beat, subtle guitar riffs, and dreamy piano — perfect for winding down after a long and busy day. Though the composition itself is fairly generic, I do feel uplifted when I listened to it.

Track 7-  너 같은 (Someone Like You) (Inst.)
