Cube Entertainment‘s latest idol girl group, CLC, released their second mini-album, Question in May after a favorable debut earlier in the year. Unlike their sunbae 4Minute’s aggressive and tough concept, CLC’s five members are decidedly innocent looking, mirroring their image to the meaning behind the group’s name — crystal clear. Throughout Question, CLC presents a playful and lively sound that is age-appropriate, much like listening to a bunch of curious teenage girls inquire and pry about love.

Track 1 – Hey-yofeel4

Question starts off with a fresh reggae influenced track — Hey-yo. The song is very inviting and summery with island rhythms, beach waves and seagull sounds in the background. CLC shows a unique staccato delivery in their singing and rap styles to give it an even more cheerful tone.

Track 2 – 궁금해 (Like)feel3

Like, the title track, has more of a cutesy and girly attitude compared to the previous track. It doesn’t steer far from your average girl group candy pop songs, but CLC manages to display solid vocals with good range. The drums and other percussion instruments also add more flirty flare to Like.

Track 3 – Luckyfeel3

Lucky is a bright and sweet disco infused pop number that has more originality than Like. I really enjoy the way that the music and vocals pick up in tempo to spread the happy virus during the chorus. The bridge is a little too monotonous. But the cute, soft, and feminine rap delivery makes up for it.

Track 4 – 숨바꼭질 (Hide and Seek)feel4

Solid vocals are on full display in Hide and Seek. This track is an upbeat pop tune with a strong EDM feel to it due to the inclusion of many synth sounds and pounding beats. Hide and Seek is the perfect mood booster and energizer when you need to blow off some steam.

Track 5 – 어쩌죠 (What Do I Do)feel4

Question closes with the only ballad on the album, What Do I Do. This song features angelic vocals accompanied by soothing violin, piano, and guitar sounds throughout. It’s a great way to unwind and close out a joyous and high-energy album. Vocally, What Do I Do surpasses the rest of the album and shows that CLC is indeed a talented rookie group.
