Less than six month since their last album Carnival, B.A.P is back in action again with their latest singles album Put’Em Up. The album consists of three diverse sounding tracks that each reflect a different side of B.A.P. From electro party ditty to urban R&B, to heartwarming ballad, the boys have sure come a long way on their music journey. This album especially demonstrated member Bang Yong Guk’s range of producing abilities.
Track 1 – Do What I Feel
Put’Em Up’s first track Do What I Feel is a high energy, optimism-filled, electro dance pop track. Right off the bat we hear the boys’ harmonious chanting like at a sports stadium, backed by pounding distorted synthetic beats. The song then transitions to a melodious pre-chorus with B.A.P’s falsetto vocals to build up excitement for the continued explosion of power and enthusiasm. This track indeed makes you feel great enough to do what you feel.
Track 2 – That’s My Jam
That’s My Jam take a slightly different turn. Still upbeat and energetic, the song is backed by a funky and rhythmic urban R&B beat. Produced by talented member Yong Guk with help from a diverse team in the U.S., this track is a hot summer night EDM jam with a heavy western flavor, similar to something you’d hear from Pitbull. While I love the dynamic and addictive beat, the song itself lacks a bit variation and can sound repetitive after a little while.
Track 3 – 뭐라고 할까 (What Should I Say)
Up next is a much slower paced R&B ballad and gives your ears a sharp change from the previous tracks. An easy on the ear track with a retro tune you’d find in a 90s R&B album, What Should I Say is Yong Guk’s first ballad song as a producer. Still, it doesn’t lack the soft guitar riffs, the sad lyrics, and the smooth yet emotional vocals from his members, though there’s not much differentiation from songs of that generation.
