As a token of appreciation to their fans for their utmost dedication, Apink has recently released the special album Dear, just for them. Featuring duets that showcase the individual talents of each member, Dear is an album that practically serenades Pink Pandas with wonder and amazement.
Track 1 – Dear (Whisper)
Not reviewed.
Track 2 – 별의 별 (Cause You’re My Star)
The title track of Dear, Cause You’re My Star, is a peppy pop track. The frisky, excellently adorned beat and the girls’ lively singing will definitely get you up and dancing. The hip hop beat drop and dance break after the chorus is an unexpected surprise, since Apink is usually known as innocent and cute.
Track 3 – Miss U
Slowing down from the quickness and liveliness of Cause You’re My Star, Miss U is an elegant lounge track. With Apink’s silvery vocals and the warmth of the delicate guitar strums with the dreamlike piano riffs, this is a song that is suitable for those times when you only have yourself as company. It bothers me slightly that this song does not take too many risks, though.
Track 4 – NoNoNo (Ballad Ver.)
This ballad version of NoNoNo, which is one of Apink’s most iconic hits, is surprisingly fresh. Although I prefer the original version, it’s nice to hear a different flavor of it. If you’re a fan of ballads, you might enjoy this sentimental, slower version of it.
Track 5 – 내가 설렐 수 있게 (Only One) (R&B Ver.)
This R&B version of Only One is astonishingly stylish and posh. Compared to the original version, this R&B version of it is more upbeat and playful. With the mirthful trumpet and classy piano rounds, this is a song that is difficult not to like. It would be great if Apink tries out R&B genre more often, as it seems to suit them well.
Track 6 – LUV (Ballad Ver.)
While the original LUV was more feminine, this version of it is more powerful. The girls’ poignant singing and the intense beat are what makes this song so haunting.
Track 7 – 흔한 일 (Ordinary Thing)
Ordinary Thing is a mellow, delicate, and soothing number, suitable to be listening to whenever one is feeling down. However, there aren’t really any elements that differentiate this from the songs before, so it might feel a bit plain and mundane.
Track 8 – 잃어버린 조각 (Lost Pieces)
Lost Pieces veers onto a path different from Ordinary Thing, being an overwhelmingly melancholic ballad. The haunting melody and the girls’ raw vocals ensure that this song has the most impact of all the songs in this album.
Track 9 – 그 봄날, 이 가을 (That Spring, This Autumn)
That Spring, This Autumn removes the sadness that might have been caused by Lost Pieces, with an uplifting beat and Apink’s honey-sweet singing. This restful track gives off an easy-listening vibe, one that I can imagine myself listening to on a peaceful day alone.
