f(x)’s rapper, the androgynous and quirky Amber, is ready to share more of her music talents than just what she’s known for. Amber weaves her beloved healthy image and positive energy throughout her solo debut album, Beautiful. At the same time, Beautiful shot way past my expectations and delivered a variety of catchy tunes outside of Amber’s typical realm of styles and genre. Not to mention, I discovered that she possesses a beautiful singing voice that’ll only make people fall in love with her even more.

Track 1 – Beautifulfeel5

The album unexpectedly opens with a mellow and groovy mid-tempo ballad. Beautiful uses no other embellishment beyond the warm acoustic guitar sounds to accompany Amber’s charming vocals. This is my first time hearing Amber’s singing voice and I must say that I was pleasantly surprised by her smooth delivery and the feminine timber of her pretty voice.

Track 2 – Shake That Brassfeel4

Shake That Brass is super fun and funky upbeat hip hop track with well, a lot of brass sounds and pounding drum beats. It features labelmate Taeyeon of Girls’ Generation as the main vocal during the bridge while Amber assumes her usual role of spunky rapper. Regardless, our ladies will definitely get you pumped up.

Track 3 – Love Runfeel5

I love this song on multiple levels. First off, Love Run is an uptempo ballad with a catchy melody and fantastical dreamy composition. But more importantly, Love Run talks about the touching Hachiko story about a faithful dog waiting for his owner to return in the same spot everyday. If you’ve ever seen the movie, this song will certainly strike a chord with you.

Track 4 –  Heightsfeel3

Next up is a bumpin’ EDM number to get your body moving. Heights sends a positive message about not giving up on chasing one’s dream. Amber’s vocal stands out with more power and energy than usual, but the composition of the track is nothing special compared to similar styled songs.

Track 5 – I Just Wannafeel5

I Just Wanna is the English version of F(x)’s Goodbye Summer from their Pink Tape album. This version features the Atlanta native ballad singer Eric Nam, known for his magnetic vocals. I particularly like how Amber and Eric’s voices melt perfectly together to bring this breezy R&B ballad to life, perhaps even more so than the original.
