With so many members in Kpop idol groups, it’s easy for your favorite member to get lost in the shuffle. We’ve previously covered underrated boy group members — now, it’s time for the girls. Continue reading for a highlight of seven underrated girl group members that deserve a little more attention.
Hyoyeon (Girls’ Generation)
Arguably the most popular girl group in Kpop is Girls’ Generation. But even with many years under the promotion belt, there are still members that aren’t as visible as others. One of these members is the main dancer of the group, Hyoyeon. There’s no denying her dancing abilities, which she recently displayed on Hit the Stage, but she still sometimes stands in the back during SNSD’s performances. When Hyoyeon is able to step out of the other members’ shadows, she gets very minimal rap lines and even less singing lines. I hope that she gets to show her full potential more during future group activities.
Victoria (f(x))
f(x) is known for being an experimental and eclectic sounding Kpop group, and they have one of the most loyal leaders in Victoria. Victoria is known for her sweet and endearing personality. She shines in her solo schedules and is strong in variety programs. She is known for her dancing ability and her flexibility is incomparable. Victoria has a solid, stable, and delicate voice that brings a lot of extra charm to f(x)’s music.
Yuna (AOA)
AOA is a trendy girl group full of sassy members. Most people recognize Jimin from Unpretty Rapstar, Choa from her acting, or Seolhyun from her CFs. But there’s another member that needs her time to shine: Yuna. She’s not only a beauty, but also has a refreshing voice that’s very moving. It doesn’t stop there — Yuna additionally has amazing keyboard skills to partner with her great voice. Even though her position in AOA is lead vocalist, she’s often overlooked. However, Yuna is a member of the subgroup AOA Cream where she gets to showcase her talents a little better.
Linzy (Fiestar)
The most recognizable member of Fiestar is more than likely Yezi. Nonetheless, Fiestar fans definitely know how talented the lead vocalist Linzy is. Linzy has amazing vocal chops — she’s one of the most stable female vocals in the world of Kpop. But she doesn’t get to showcase her full potential in the group. She’s the lead vocalist, but doesn’t have very many lines and typically only sings portions of the chorus. Linzy is gaining popularity from variety gigs, but I would like to see her get more recognition on her voice and dancing skills.
Sojin (Girl’s Day)
Sojin is another leader and lead vocalist that finds herself on this list. Not only does she have an amazing voice with a killer range, but she has sassy and attention-grabbing dance moves to match. Sojin has a nice lower register that balances out the belts from fellow group member, Mina. Sojin does have a decent amount of singing lines, but she deserves more chances to show the public her full range.
Namjoo (Apink)
Often overshadowed by lead singer Eunji, Kpop fans need to take a listen to Apink’s Namjoo. Namjoo has a strong voice that is full of soul and color, characteristics you don’t always hear from girl group members. She was able to show her vocal abilities in King of Masked Singers. Not only does Namjoo have a strong voice, but she also has a lovable persona and sultry dance moves. She definitely needs more recognition.
Jungyeon (Twice)
Twice are the new “it” girls and are taking the industry by storm. With nine members, it must be a struggle to distribute the lines evenly amongst the girls. However, I feel that Jungyeon is up for the challenge of taking on more. Jungyeon was often praised on Sixteen, the survival show that formed Twice. Her live vocals were, and still are, stable and consistent. Not only does Jungyeon have great vocals, but she’s also one of the best dancers in the group. This girl is an all around entertainer that is underutilized in Twice.
