7 of the Most Underrated Kpop Boy Idol Group Members

Do you sometimes feel like your favorite member of an idol group with talent went missing when you’re listening to their group songs? Often times, fans would get upset over the distribution of lines among Kpop group members. We’re highlighting the underrated boy idol group members with talent who are overlooked and deserve to sing more lines.

Jin (BTS)

Being one of the most popular boy groups in the world, BTS is no doubt a talented bunch. From vocal to rap, one can never resist listening to their songs. But despite their tremendous popularity and publicity, there is one member we wish we could hear more of — Jin. Though the visual position is jokingly claimed by V, Jin is the face of the group. But other than being the visual representative, he is also a solid vocalist with a smooth and endearing voice. Yet in group songs, Jin’s singing parts are hardly noticeable.

Sungjong (Infinite)

underrated kpop boy idols infinite sungjong

Infinite’s maknae is like a magnet for cameras because of his cute face and gestures. But in Infinite songs, it certainly feels like the lines are not attracted to his cuteness. In subunit Infinite F, Sungjong’s voice is highlighted a bit more and we get to hear his uniquely angelic and boyish vocals. Many ballad singers have this type of soft and airy voice, that can reach high and low notes. This leads me to expect more of Sungjong’s voice and his full potentials. There is definitely more to it and we just haven’t discovered it yet.

Lay (EXO)

underrated kpop boy idols exo lay

The remaining Chinese member of one of the most popular groups, EXO, definitely deserves more lines. The group recently released their latest song, Lotto. Usually, Chinese members would get more parts in the Chinese version. However, it seems as if someone forgot that Lay is a Chinese member as fans fervently comments on how few lines he’s receiving. Though largely unnoticeable in EXO songs, Lay’s talents earned himself a solo debut this year, so we look forward to hearing more from him.

Jaehyo (Block B)

underrated kpop boy idols block b jaehyo

Hip hop group, Block B, has a hidden gem underneath those cool and powerful songs. Jaehyo is known for his handsome looks and charisma that makes fans flutter. What some don’t realize is that Jaehyo also has a very warm and cozy voice, with lots of magnetic pull. On top of that, he also has a crystal clear falsetto, perfect for hitting those high notes. That’s why his fans cherish his singing parts, albeit rare among Block B’s rap heavy songs. We hope to see a Block B subunit with more R&B ballads for Jaehyo’s voice to take the spotlight.

Doojoon (Beast)

Perhaps in many groups, leaders get the most lines, but it’s a bit different for Beast. Beast is a group with some of the most recognized voices in Kpop because the talent among members is very even. Though Yoseob and Dongwoon get all the belting high notes, there is a charismatic and strong voice hidden in their shadows. This voice belongs to the national boyfriend, Doojoon, who’s better known as an actor. After the departure of Hyunseung, we expected him to get more lines, but was again disappointed in Beast’s latest songs, Ribbon and Butterfly.

Hyuk (VIXX)

underrated kpop boy idols vixx hyuk

VIXX is no doubt a pro when it comes to amazing concepts for their comebacks. The group jives well with whatever concept they go with and is always the center of attention because of it. Yet the group’s maknae, Hyuk, seems to be living in shadows. On YouTube, Hyuk has a number of vocal covers that you’ll surely enjoy listening to. They show how Hyuk can take on any genre and pitch with his sexy voice. It’s such a pity that he gets the least number of lines despite his vocal range and flexibilities.

Minho (SHINee)

Shinee definitely paved their way to the top with some powerful choreographies and talented vocals alike. But when you hear the words “vocals of Shinee”, you’ll instantly think of Jonghyun, Taemin, and Onew. When it comes to rap, it’s definitely Key. But what about visual Minho? SHINee fans unite to prove that the most overlooked member can certainly sing. In particular, when Minho sang Kyuhyun’s song, At Gwanghwamun, we just can’t get enough of his warming and charming vocals.

Who are the other boy group members that you feel are underrated and deserve more attention? Tell us why in the comment section below.

Finally someone said it! CHOI MINHO IS SO UNDERRATED! This is especially true in his solo career. He doesn’t get too much recognition for that. I recommend you check out ‘I’m home’, one of his best solo tracks, in my opinion. People don’t give him enough credit in his singing and it’s truly saddening.

What about J Hope from BTS? He is not very popular, but he can do almost everything. He can dance, rap, sing, and even beatbox! He’s extremely attractive and has such a nice personality. Think about it, he can even make Suga laugh…SUGA! He’s always so serious, but he changes when he’s with Hobi(I ship it). Anyone else agree?

Yes I think so too. Xiumin has an amazing vocal capacity that he can reach high notes like Baekhyun, D.O and Chen. When I first heard Jin, I was wondering why he gets few lines despite his sweet voice.

I’m not sure about others but I think Lay is underrated a lot, many times when whole group is present he ain’t there and no one bothers asking about him. His presence is slowly being unrecognizable.

He is a very talented person. He’s a great dancer, he can play the piano well, and he definitely can sing. Why not give him more lines, right?

I do not think that Jin is underrated, his voice is equally exposed… and V is the real visual, Minho should be given vocal lines more but we are used to him rapping…. Lay is indeed underrated he has a nice voice, feat dancing skills and few exposures.

Jin is totally underrated. In dance he always at the back. N he barely sing a line. They have to stop overshadow him like seriously.
