Each year idol groups release trendy and unforgettable dances, and 2016 did not disappoint. As we say goodbye to 2016, let’s take a look at some of the most memorable boy group choreographies. There are far too many comebacks and debuts to focus on all of them, so we picked out a few. Here are eight memorable boy group choreographies in 2016 (in no particular order) for you to enjoy.
NCT U – The 7th Sense
The 7th Sense is unlike any other song released in 2016. So it’s not shocking that it has eccentric movements to go with such a peculiar track. The choreography is occupied with precise movements that vary in speeds. To make the moves more intriguing, many of the steps were executed in ripples. NCT U made an impressive splash with such a suave performance.
GOT7 – Fly
The seven member JYP boy group, GOT7 had one of the biggest years in their short career. When the group released Fly they caught the attention of many. Fly is full of swag and allows for the group to show a smooth hip hop routine. The choreography has floor work as well as a nice mix of smooth, fast, intricate, and slow motions. Fly is light but leaves a major impact.
BTS – Blood Sweat & Tears
BTS is constantly reinventing themselves. Blood Sweat & Tears was a new side to BTS that the whole world got to witness. The choreography in this song was very refreshing because the boys showed a sensual side, something that isn’t common to see amongst boy groups. Although the difficulty level is high, the boys make this dance look effortless and clean. The fluidity of the choreography mixed with the great use of levels, made Blood Sweat & Tears one of the most unique and memorable choreographies in 2016.
VIXX – Fantasy
VIXX never dissatisfies with their choreography and Fantasy is no different. There are simple movements displayed in the dance but this takes lots of discipline for the group to all move together as one. This dance isn’t super flashy, but each move in Fantasy has a purpose that helps show the storyline. With many attractive position changes, Fantasy leaves a deep impression.
SF9 – KO
SF9 debuted in October 2016. KO was their second release, and wow is this choreography impactful. The windmill-like intro where the members trade positions is memorable all on its own — but the signficance doesn’t end there. KO has clean choreography with formations that grant each member a time to be seen. SF9 also showed that they are up on the times with a short section of the dougie. There is also another noteworthy peel off choreography section near the middle of the routine that is executed in a flawless manner.
EXO – Monster
Monster is full of hard hitting, dark movements making it the most hip hop-inspired routine on this list. The moves in Monster are suitable for EXO which allow the group to really sell the number. There are a lot of fast movements that showcase fancy footwork and complex moves. The unique line changes add even more depth to this nonstop choreography because the formation changes are actual dance moves instead of walking to position.
Topp Dogg – Rainy Day
Topp Dogg’s choreography for Rainy Day shows how versatile they are as dancers. The choreography has sentimental motions and movements that coordinate with the lyrics, with a great use of ripples and interesting stage arrangements. A circle was utilized many times to showcase a specific member. Rainy Day is not too flashy but tells the storyline very well.
Seventeen – BOOMBOOM
Seventeen is always impressive due to the way that thirteen people can move like a well oiled machine. Of course these boys do the same in BOOMBOOM. Seventeen used jackets as props with sharp movements which allows for this choreography to be very visually engaging. One more thing that makes this choreography memorable is that each “boomboom” is a simple and catchy step that anyone can follow along to.
