Taeyeon – Why
We kick the list off with this hot summer track. Why is a cheery pop number with major influences from the EDM genre. While this might be a genre tackled by many American artists, Taeyeon’s airy voice adds a certain flavor and uniqueness to it. With an uplifting beat and Taeyeon’s groovy vocals, you just can’t resist dancing all night long.
Oh My Girl – Liar Liar
Next up is a surprisingly unconventional and dynamic pop number. The statement-making melody and the girls’ breezy, dreamy vocals are what make Liar Liar stick in your head for quite a long time.
Luna – Free Somebody
Starting Free Somebody off are sultry piano riffs, signifying that this is going to one fierce dance track. Get ready to move your body to the disco-influenced beat, reminiscent of the 80s, and indulge in Luna’s powerful, commanding voice.
Twice – TT
Of course, who can forget this insanely popular ditty? It’s not really surprising that TT hit the top of the charts in South Korea and has rapidly increasing YouTube views, considering the song’s addictively hooky nature. The Halloween-inspired beat, combined with Twice’s bubbly vocals, will make you do the TT dance for years to come.
I.O.I – Very Very Very (너무너무너무)
Very Very Very is peppy and fast-paced, with slight retro influences. The swiftness of the song ensures that there isn’t anything boring about it. Like TT, Very Very Very is a catchy earworm that will get you your head along to the cheeky melody, if you’re not already up and dancing.
Lee Hi – 손잡아 줘요 (Hold My Hand)
Providing a respite from the zest of the previous songs, Hold My Hand is a relaxed and carefree R&B track, also reminiscent of the 80s. Lee Hi’s soulful and warm vocals are truly highlighted here. This is the song you will be heading to if you are looking for a slow but fun time.
Wonder Girls – Why So Lonely
Why So Lonely is a number with a reggae foundation, rarely seen in Kpop. The fact that Why So Lonely is so unconventional increases the interest factor by many notches. The girls’ honey-sweet vocals blends perfectly with the powerful beat to form one delectable song.
GFriend – 시간을 달려서 (Rough)
Being more sentimental than the other songs in this list, Rough is a ballad that is surprisingly brisk and forceful with a classical twist. Vigorous violin rounds, impressive guitar riffs, and the girls’ stirring singing, all combine to ensure that Rough will have maximum impact on listeners.
Black Pink – Stay
One of the hottest rookies this year, Black Pink tries taking a break from their usual bubbly pop songs with Stay. What makes Stay so interesting is the polarity of the fast-paced chorus and the slow-paced verses. Not only that, the sentiment the girls have and the sweetness of the guitar plucks will make you stay and listen all day long.
Jessica Jung – Fly
Last but not least, Jessica’s stunning solo debut song is sure to lift spirits. The lounge-like melody, Jessica’s golden voice, and meaningful lyrics are just some of the things that make Fly a masterpiece.
