If you’re a true fan of Kpop, then you’re no stranger to the amazing group that is Infinite. And you’re definitely not new to the amazing group member that is Woohyun. Infinite’s power vocalist Nam Woohyun has finally released his solo debut album titled Write. It’s an awesome seven-track combination of ballads and rock songs that show us just how much vocal dexterity this artist has.
Track 1 – Write (Intro)
Write opens with same titled intro track featuring a lone piano playing soft and calming melody. As the gentle piano notes quietly and gracefully glide through time, the track relaxes the listener’s hearts and prepares them for beautiful tunes that are about to ensue.
Track 2 – 끄덕끄덕 (Still I Remember)
Still I Remember is a nice R&B tune with soft, sensual vocals laid over calming instrumentals. The song shows Woohyun’s vocal skill and it’s easy to fall into the rhythm. It talks about being unable to forget a painful love and giving up on trying to forget said pain. While this song had all the trappings of a great song, at some point, it started to sound a bit monotonous.
Track 3 – 그 사람 (Passerby)
Passerby is a ballad that talks about feeling like a random stranger in a relationship. The pain in Woohyun’s voice is evident as he sings about having to leave a relationship, because he started to feel invisible even though he didn’t want to. It’s undoubtedly a very beautiful song, but it didn’t grab my attention well enough — it got hard to focus on it after awhile.
Track 4 – 향기 (Nostalgia)
Nostalgia is another ballad that talks about yearning for a former lover. It’s also another showcase of Woohyun’s alluring vocals that warms my heart and has me swaying along in a matter of seconds. It’s the perfect song to listen to on a rainy day while staring out the window.
Track 5 – Gravity
Gravity is a soft rock song that talks about loving someone so much you want to hold them close and protect them. Although the message is not particularly cheerful, the song starts that way and immediately gets your attention. Woohyun’s strong voice is also one of this song’s many appeals.
Track 6 – Stand by Me
This is yet another ballad that makes me love Woohyun. Like the title says, he desperately asks someone to stand by him. Stand by Me is a heartfelt combination of vocals and instruments.
Track 7 – Everyday
Everyday is a rock pop song that nicely concludes the album. It talks about wanting to be with someone everyday. Here, Woohyun passes his message across with sharp, bold vocals laid over a fast-paced, dance-inducing rhythm. It’s definitely my favorite song on this album.
