We saw the extreme retro makeover of Wonder Girls in their comeback album Reboot. Now, the girl band is back again with yet another new take on their retro image and self-composed and produced tracks. The nostalgia brought by the previous album can still be felt in this new album Why So Lonely, but this time, Wonder Girls introduces us to a whole new world of reggae pop fun.
Track 1 – Why So Lonely
Written by the girls themselves, the title track, Why So Lonely features a reggae-like guitar and a smooth tune. Not as upbeat their their previous single I Feel You, Why So Lonely is a much more laid-back song with no tense elements whatsoever. Just some soothing melody and soft vocals that blend well with the guitar accompaniment.
Track 2 – 아름다운 그대에게 (To the Beautiful You)
Maybe not as flashy as the previous song in this album, but To the Beautiful You has a special charm to it. Not sure if it’s the dreamy synths, subtle beat, or the sweet yet flirty vocals, all of those element work well together to create a track you’d listen to while watching the sunset.
Track 3 – Sweet and Easy
The retro vibe is back in the last song, Sweet and Easy. This is an nostalgic disco song with a modern twist to it. The 80’s synths of I Feel You combined with the reggae guitar sounds found in Why So Lonely indeed was experimental, but unfortunately I found it boring and too bland for an album I expect a lot from.
