The charismatic boys of Teen Top are back to share more of their charm and talent with their latest album, Red Point. This album tones down Teen Top’s usual hyper dance pop excitement, and opts for a more romantic and sentimental progression with a number of R&B and ballad tracks. It’s truly a joy to listen to as every track is quite catchy and brings out Teen Top’s unique music flavor. Red Point certainly sets a high bar for the albums to come.
Track 1 – 사각지대 (Warning Sign)
Low-pitched bass guitar riffs, groovy beats, and dreamy chimes add together to help make Warning Sign really hit the mark. With such a cool rhythm accompanied by clear-as-glass falsetto vocals, Warning Sign is the perfect dance pop song for those who like a bit of suspense and sophistication in the melody.
Track 2 – 가지마 (Please, Don’t Go)
After the confidence found in Warning Sign comes the sweetness found in Please, Don’t Go. The smooth integration of mellow synths and soft vocals makes it sound like the boys are whispering to my ears and telling me to relax. The light chimes add a romantic feel to the earnest pleading heard in the song asking the girl not to leave. After listening to it, you surely won’t want to leave Teen Top either.
Track 3 – Day
Different from the previous songs in Red Point, Day starts off with some bluesy acoustic guitar to set the sentimental undertone and the extremely catchy melody of this R&B tune. With the occasional appearance of saxophone and piano chords mimicking the sound of raindrops, it’s the kind of song you should listen to on a rainy or snowy day while getting over a breakup.
Track 4 – Liar
Liar is a beautiful ballad track primarily accompanied by acoustic guitar and some winding violin strings during the chorus for a bit more dramatic effect. It’s similar in sentiment to Day and also expresses the loneliness of parting with a relationship, though it has a slow tempo and a much more noticeable rap section in the intro.
Track 5 – 기다리죠 (Day After Day)
Sad piano scales and playful electric guitar sounds mix harmoniously in the intro of Day After Day in a way that I would never have expected. Then the mid-tempo drum beats and finger snaps come in and make me want to tap along in sync. I particularly like the groovy chorus of this R&B number and the smooth rap afterwards.
Track 6 – 술마시지마 (Don’t Drink)
Red Point ends on a cutesier mood after a slew of weepy tracks. The soothing melody and bouncy beats make Don’t Drink the type of song you’d usually hear inside a coffee shop during autumn to brighten up your mood. The romantic acoustic guitar sounds create a sweet and dreamy vibe to the song. And the change of tempo at times, coupled with dialogues exchanged between a man and a woman, really make it sound like the song is telling a story of the jealous boyfriend dictating what his girlfriend should and should not do.
