After releasing her first solo mini-album in 2014, Secret’s Song Ji Eun is back with her second mini-album, Bobby Doll. With Ji Eun trying a variety of genres and putting her own twist to it, there’s surely something you’ll like in this album.
Track 1 – I Wanna Fall In Love
I Wanna Fall In Love is a mid-tempo R&B track with a pounding beat. Ji Eun’s vocals sound beautiful in this catchy song. Unfortunately, aside from that, I can’t find anything special about this song.
Track 2 – 바비돌 (Bobby Doll)
Bobby Doll is the title track of this album which showcases a playful melody with sexy vocals. This acoustic dance track is not as strong as some of her previous songs, but her sultry vocals combined with the playful instrumentation just sounds so good.
Track 3 – Off The Record
Off The Record is an acoustic ballad that follows after the sexy title track. Other than the guitar, piano, and slow backbeat, there are no other instruments, which made this track really highlight Ji Eun’s voice.
Track 4 – 오아시스 (Oasis)
Oasis is a mid-tempo lounge-like song. Like the other tracks in this album, Oasis uses repetitive lyrics to try to create a memorable hook. Unfortunately, I felt that it falls flat and just isn’t that catchy. Ji Eun’s voice is also toned down and more laid-back in this one, which also didn’t help to make the song more memorable.
Track 5 – 괜찮아요 (Be Alright)
A relaxing song comes next with finger snaps, jazzy guitar strumming, and chimes. The tempo changes throughout the song which adds more flavor to it. It would have been much better if Ji Eun didn’t repeat the lyrics and instead added another word that rhymes with the chorus of “gwaenchanha” (“it’s ok”). Other than that, the melody and the vocals match really well making it a good repeat listen.
