Sandeul – ‘Stay As You Are’ Album Review

B1A4 member, Sandeul, is finally making a splash for himself with his solo debut. Being part of a group whose talents are often overlooked, Sandeul joined music shows like King of Masked Singer to showcase his true potential. And lucky for us, his latest solo album, Stay As You Are, is full of different kinds of emotions that can help you escape from stressful and busy days.

Track 1 – 렇게 있어 줘 (Stay As You Are)

The title track, Stay As You Are, kicks off the album. Sandeul’s warm vocals alone welcome us at first, but is then joined by light guitar strumming and piano sounds. Though this is a ballad track, it doesn’t give off a sad feeling but rather a really warm and cozy feeling, just like a cup of tea on a relaxing afternoon.

Track 2 – 집 (Home)

Slower than the title track, Home continues the soft and warm tone from the previous track but truly brings out the feeling of home. The melody and piano sound just a bit heavier and sentimental than the previous track, yet gives off a more grateful and sincere emotion while talking about appreciation for his family.

Track 3 – 나의 어릴 적 이야기 (My Childhood Story)

My Childhood Story brings an entirely different atmosphere, having an olden age folklore tune softly telling the story of the past with just the help of simple acoustic guitar and harmonica. I just love how Sandeul’s voice paints a vivid picture of far-away childhood days like watching a black and white film.

Track 4 – 야!(Ya!)

Sandeul switches up the mood again and is now joined by Mamamoo’s Wheein in this mid-tempo pop track called Ya!. Playing with synths and a groovy rhythm, this track has a relaxing and smooth lounge music vibe. Wheein’s sultry voice complements Sandeul’s silky vocals beautifully.

Track 5 – 같이 걷는 길 (The Way with You)

The Way with You is a mid-tempo acoustic track with dreamy chimes. This song gives off hope and positivity with a uplifting melody. Though I have heard this type of songs from another artist, Sandeul’s voice makes it stand out among the rest, where you can nearly picture him smiling the whole way through. What a great heart-warming way of wrapping up the album!
