Get ready to get sentimental as SM Entertainment’s Prince of Ballads, Kyuhyun, returns with his third EP, Waiting, Still. This album features seven heart-warming songs, two of which are the title tracks composed by Yoon Jong Shin and Sung Si Kyung, who is popularly known for his ballad songs. This is surely an album to warm up our hearts.
Track 1 – 블라블라(Blah Blah)
Composed by Yoon Jong Shin, the first title track of the album, Blah Blah, is a sentimental ballad that lingers in memory. It has the usual elements that a ballad track has, but Kyuhyun’s voice gives it a unique flair as he easily embodies the emotion of the track.
Track 2 – 조용히 안녕(Last Good-bye)
Last Good-bye gives off a more gloomy feeling than the previous track. This track reminds me of Kyuhyun’s song, At Gwanghwamun because of the build-up between the verse and the chorus. Last Good-bye is the perfect song you should listen to as a lullaby.
Track 3 – 여전히 아늑해(Still)
The second title track, Still, composed by Sung Si Kyung, is cozy and has a feeling of hope. Kyuhyun’s falsettos and high notes, along with the soft piano and guitar, really blended so well. The track starts and ends smoothly with the piano which I liked as well.
Track 4 – 네 안의 가을 (Fall in you)
The start of this song is like listening to a world class orchestra. Fall in you shows what Kyuhyun can do with a song that is slightly upbeat compared to his previous songs. I really like how the song sounds like lounge music with a hint of jazz combined with Kyuhyun’s falsetto. Overall, Fall in you is the ultimate feel good song in this album.
Track 5 – 시절인연(Love in Time)
We are back onboard the sentimental ship as Kyuhyun sings about memories. Out of all the songs in this album, I think this song feels the most like autumn. The gloomy piano builds up in the bridge as it reaches the chorus which I think is the highlight of Love in Time. Other than that, the remaining parts of the song just didn’t stand out for me.
Track 6 – 마음세탁소(When with me)
Another upbeat feel good song comes next with When with me. The fairy tale-like piano plays as Kyuhyun happily sings the song. Putting a bit of bossa nova in its verses, especially in the first verse, adds a new flavor to the album. Two thumbs up for this song.
Track 7 – 그리고 우리(And We)
The album Waiting, Still ends with a slow tempo acoustic track paired with Kyuhyun’s warm vocals. And We, fit to be a Kdrama soundtrack, is as relaxing as drinking coffee while reading a book on a rainy day. You can never get tired of listening to this track.
