Kisum, best known for being a competitor on the first season of Unpretty Rapstar, released her latest EP in April. The Sun, the Moon is all about love including Kisum’s perceptions, personal experiences, and daydreams on the topic. This is an experimental sounding hip hop EP that shows promise for the kind of artist Kisum can become.
Track 1 – The Sun, the Moon In Love
The Sun, the Moon In Love kicks the EP off with a psychedelic feeling. This track is about opposites attracting and falling in love. There are distant sounding synths that allows for Kisum’s verses to shine.
Track 2 – In the Rain
In the Rain begins with a neo-soul sound. This is a joyous sounding track that helps retell the stories of romantic moments that happened in the rain. The beat allows for a nice bounce and groove that fits well with both artists, as Kisum gets help from I rang to complete the sound.
Track 3 – Stop Calling
The storyline in Stop Calling is about a woman that is ending a relationship, telling the other party to stop contacting her. This track has a nice pop, 90’s girl group, breakup feel. With the unique synth washes, Stop Calling is light and upbeat but has a hint of sadness.
Track 4 – Sleep Tight
Sleep Tight is a hip hop ballad fusion song about a passionate love that shows a softer and more feminine side of rapper Kisum. The verses, recited by Kisum, sound a bit more sentimental and angst-filled, while the chorus, sung by Gilgubonggu, turns the mood to be a bit more optimistic and determined, making for an interesting tug-of-war on your emotions.
Track 5 – Sleep Tight (Acoustic Ver.)
The acoustic version of Sleep Tight features a nice acoustic guitar. This track also allows Kisum’s vocals to shine more as she has no feature on the acoustic version. This was a nice track to end with as it shows what kind of artist she can be.
