After releasing her debut album With Love, J early this year and achieving significant success with it, Jessica is now back, stronger than ever, with the EP Wonderland. In this album, Jessica dabbles into the different genres that are out in the market, particularly EDM. Her brave experiments with so many different styles and concepts mean there are barely any bland moments in this album.
Track 1 – Wonderland
Like the title suggests, Wonderland is a mystic yet alluring number. A bubbly pop track with hints of EDM, and soft synth sounds to spice it up, it is impossible not to feel uplifted after listening to this.
Track 2 – Dancing On The Moon
Continuing with the jaunty vibes of Wonderland, Dancing On The Moon is a radio-friendly, medium-paced song with a EDM foundation. Although the light beat is pleasant to the ears, Jessica’s voice clashes with it, especially during the chorus. Also, the chorus doesn’t match well with the melody, so Dancing On The Moon isn’t something that I would listen to often.
Track 3 – Celebrate
Celebrate is a fun dance number, with musical embellishments here and there to make it even more interesting. This is a song to turn to if you are happy and just want to celebrate (hence the name!).
Track 4 – World Of Dreams
World Of Dreams is a whimsical and unique song with R&B influences. What makes this song so interesting is that the melody is not what is expected of a typical R&B track; in fact, it is rather high-pitched. World Of Dreams is like a breath of fresh air due to this unique feature.
Track 5 – Beautiful
Beautiful is a pleasant, uplifting number with a surprisingly strong beat, something Jessica has not really tried yet. The prominence and loudness of the guitar riffs and the piano is, astonishingly, able to blend with Jessica’s sweet, soft vocals. There is not really anything dull about Beautiful, as there is so much happening.
Track 6 – Tonight
Tonight is a chic, laid-back track, which I can imagine running into at a lounge. However, this is a style that Jessica has tried many times before, especially in her debut album With Love, J, so this song doesn’t particularly stand out. Nevertheless, Tonight does wrap up Wonderland nicely.
