While the group is still on hiatus, Jeong Jinwoon of 2AM has made his solo comeback after exploring being an actor for some time. Deviating from his usual 2AM music style a bit, his latest album Will is a tastefully crafted album that fits the mood of both your sunny and rainy days.
Track 1 – Tricky
This album starter song is truly a gem. Tricky is heavily experimental, with a dash of jazz and a sprinkling of rock here and there. Jinwoon’s voice, one that is definitely able make the fangirls swoon and the weak-hearted faint, further complements the innovative rhythm of the song. I am shocked that this is not the title track. And this is arguably, one of the best songs I have heard this year.
Track 2 – Will
Will is a song that, like Tricky, is heavily influenced by rock music. The lively, varied beat of the electric guitar and the drums manage to make this song a memorable one. His sultry, baritone vocals make this song even more impressive. I wish that this song wouldn’t be so similar in style to Will, though. Tiger JK’s rap felt quite shallow and boring too. But Jinwoon’s incredible vocals, and a melody that is often unheard of in Kpop, more than makes up for these problems.
Track 3 – 꽃잎 떨어질 때 (Flower)
I did not expect that Will would end with a soothing ballad. Neither did I expect that Jinwoon would be able to perform this type of song perfectly. Jinwoon’s stirring vocals here produce woeful vibes that impact and resonate within me. Jo Hyuna of Urban Zakapa is basically the cherry at the top of the sundae, balancing Jinwoon’s deep vocals with an angelic voice without drowning his own voice out. The mellow, melancholic beat of Flower will definitely be able to make you empathize with the singers. I will reiterate, this is the perfect ending to a perfect album.
