Just Right is GOT7‘s third mini-album, released at just the right time to be a total hot summer jam. Although this is a primarily hip hop influenced album, the boys manage to present different flavors of hip hop fusion songs that not only demonstrate their rap skills, but also their vocal capabilities. More importantly, Just Right neatly expresses GOT7’s youthful energy and positive attitude.
Track 1 – 딱 좋아 (Just Right)
Just Right, the title song, is a very bright and playful pop song infused with distinctive synth sounds and southern hip hop rhythm. GOT7 uses empowering lyrics to express just how perfect a girl is to them, letting her know she never needs to change as she’s quite literally “just right”. The song quickly became a summer anthem in my books due to its catchy beats and positive energy.
Track 2 – 보름달이 뜨기 전에 (Before the Full Moon Rises)
Before the Full Moon Rises is a mid-tempo R&B track with faint synths and a hint of hip hop rhythm in the background. As a soft song with no standalone rap verses, the rappers present their parts with a laid-back semi-talking rapping style that suits the spirit of the song well. Before the Full Moon Rises is a unique song that focuses on showcasing GOT7’s vocal abilities.
Track 3 – 온몸이 반응해 (My Reaction)
A mellow yet groovy melody with strong vocals in the chorus sums up My Reaction. It’s got a similar urban R&B feel to it like the previous track. However, the rappers are more prevalent in My Reaction, which sets it apart from Before the Full Moon Rises. Although Before the Full Moon Rises‘s melody is more memorable to me. GOT7 shows a cute concept by telling a girl that their whole body reacts uncontrollably when they hear or see her.
Track 4 – Nice
Here we have the most modern hip hop dance track I’ve ever heard from GOT7. I was pleasantly surprised by the clean-cut and bouncy rhythm of Nice that makes it a perfect fit for a nightclub. Nice has a couple of tempo changes partnered with different strong synths each time. The boys’ harmonies are on point and I especially like how the rapping and singing work together to showcase different aspects of the septet.
Track 5 – Mine
Mine starts off full of hip hop flavor with an interesting rapping style backed with heavy drums and bass. However, the song changes style once the chorus kicks in and turns into more of an EDM dance pop tune. I really enjoy the rapping style of this total club banger and that it displays a harmonious mix of electro dance and hip hop.
Track 6 – Back to Me
Completely changing gears back to a bright and funky vibe again, GOT7 pleads for the girl to come back to them after a breakup in Back to Me. I couldn’t help but feel good and dance along to this pop number filled with rhythmic bass riffs and upbeat energy.
