Unknown to many, Gavy NJ is currently the longest-running girl group in Kpop, having debuted 11 years ago in 2005, and is still going strong. After the unfortunate leave of the original four members, this trio has recently made a solid comeback with new mini-album An Obvious Melo. Their passion and emotion from so many years of being in the industry are the saviors of this otherwise uniform album.
Track 1 – 뻔한 멜로 (An Obvious Melo)
The girls brought a creatively produced number in An Obvious Melo, mixing in their usual soulful ballad flair with sensual flamenco guitar elements. The resulting song is well, melodramatic and flamboyant, especially when coupled with the girls’ powerful vocal harmonies.
Track 2 – 먹고, 자고, 그리워하고 (Eat, Sleep, Miss)
Eat, Sleep, Miss is a traditional pop track with your typical but pleasing piano chords. As a result, it doesn’t really make much of a statement especially compared to the title track. Otherwise, it’s a sweet ditty that will bring peace to troubled minds.
Track 3 – 미안했을까 (Did You Feel Sorry For Me)
Did You Feel Sorry For Me is a high-class ballad that sounds like something Davichi, the renowned vocal duo in South Korea, would put out. Taking a serious note as compared to the last two tracks, it’s an emotional song that allows the the girls’ sonorous voices to fully captivate and amaze you.
Track 4 – 우리 사이 (Between Us)
Between Us is a cute, medium-paced acoustic number that is so contagious in its happiness, but it doesn’t really stand out from the rest of the album like the title track did. However, if peppy pop tracks are your cup of tea, this would be an excellent choice for you.
Track 5 – 슈비루비룹 (Shubirubirub)
Last but not least, Shubirubirub is a low-key dance track with a fun and playful melody. The innocence that acts as a backdrop to this track is alike to that of girl groups such as Lovelyz and Apink, so if you like their adorable concept, you might enjoy this too.
