The talented main vocalist of Apink, Jung Eunji, gives us more of her songwriting skill and warm vocals with her first ever solo album, Dream. Shining in dramas and stage plays, Eunji sticks to what she loves doing most: singing and songwriting with the help of really talented musicians like Harim, Double Sidekick, and Eana. Coming from a group with a pure image and sweet songs, let’s see what Eunji has in store for us.
Track 1 – 하늘바라기 (Hopefully Sky)
Dream starts off with its title track, Hopefully Sky, which is a really light and relaxing song. With soothing vocals and a mid tempo beat, the song also has some harmonica which makes it stand out. The bright melody and Eunji’s vocals combine smoothly, making me smile while listening to it.
Track 2 – 사랑은 바람처럼 (Love is Like the Wind)
Love is Like the Wind has the potential of being an OST for a drama or movie because it can set a gloomy mood. During the first moments of this song, I wasn’t that interested in it, sounding like a typical ballad. But when it reaches the bridge, the melody gives way to Eunji’s vocals as she goes all out with her high notes, and I remembered how powerful her vocals can be.
Track 3 – It’s Ok
Just like the title track, It’s Ok is a relaxing song with acoustic guitar and piano that reminds me a bit of a spring evening. But like Love is Like the Wind, the only thing that kept my attention is Eunji’s amazing vocals. Overall, this song lacked any surprising elements to keep it memorable, as it sounds like your usual acoustic ballad track.
Track 4 – Home
Home is a mid tempo pop ballad song which is a bit different from the others, featuring some powerful synths that merge with Eunji’s more commanding vocals. Also unlike the other songs from this album, I didn’t enjoy this song only because of Eunji’s voice — it’s also because of the power brought on by the melody and beat.
Track 5 – 사랑이란 (Love Is)
Ending the album with a lullaby-like ballad, Love Is is a slow tempo song that sounds much like Love is Like the Wind. Starting with an acoustic guitar that’s followed by piano and drums, Eunji’s calming vocals fit the gloomy instrumental combination like a puzzle piece. But in the end, this song just sounds like a regular late night radio track.
Track 6 – 하늘바라기 (Hopefully Sky) (Piano Ver.)
