Minx, a five-member girl group that debuted in 2014, added two new members and re-branded themselves under a new name, Dreamcatcher. This time, the girls left a deeper impression with listeners through an unusual and intriguing anime-style J-rock music flavor and a spooky and mysterious image. Their debut single Chase Me quickly reached over two million views on YouTube, an accomplishment that’s difficult to reach for most rookie groups
Track 1 – Welcome To Dream (Intro)
Welcome To Dream is an instrumental track that though short in length, immediately kicks the intensity into high gear and sets the dramatic tone for the rest of the album to come. Thundering drums, haunting whispering vocals, and moody electric guitars, all build towards an impending nightmare.
Track 2 – Chase Me
The debut single Chase Me drew much attention with a distinctive heavy metal rock pop composition similar to what you’d hear from a Japanese anime, and a horror-themed MV to match the statement-making melody. It’s captivating to watch the story unfold and grow in intensity against the girls’ belting vocals and clamorous electric guitar and drum combo.
Track 3 – 소원 하나 (Emotion)
Emotion takes a much softer approach with dreamy piano riffs and light beats accompanying the girls’ calming vocals, which is quite refreshing after the previous fierce tracks, as if you’ve woken up from “the nightmare”. It’s an enjoyable R&B-inspired pop ballad number that’s not entirely unique from what you might expect from a girl group, but still, Dreamcatcher’s flawless execution and falsettos more than make up for it.
