Kpop’s R&B and soul representative Dean is back with a short two track album titled Limbo. Dean once again lived up to his fame as an inventive producer who constantly treads into new waters, which can be heard in particular in his collaboration track with 15&’s Baek Yerin. Limbo flows with creative juice and poetry, but is unfortunately too short, leaving you wishing for more.
Track 1 – 불청객 (The Unknown Guest)
This short opening track is produced in unplugged-style, almost like a demo recording. With only simple and quiet acoustic piano strings accompanying Dean’s sticky and magnetic voice, The Unknown Guest is a soulful and bluesy jazz lounge tune that you’d hear performed live over a fancy dinner. While the tune is indeed relaxing, it’s quite brief and leaves you feeling a bit unsatisfied.
Track 2 – 넘어와 (Come Over)
Come Over has a unique opening that gives off a mysterious aura with its deep drum beats and quirky synthetic piano chords. Dean’s suave voice soon makes its appearance and adds a sense of playfulness to the otherwise offbeat yet pleasant R&B and jazz composition. Baek Yerin’s voice on the other hand is a bit too high-pitched and piercing, which sounds jarring next to the smooth melody and Dean’s silky vocals. Thankfully, her solo lines are few and far in between and doesn’t take away from the overall enjoyableness of this creative song.
