Day6 – ‘Every Day6 January’ Album Review

JYP’s rock band Day6 has been rather quiet in the second half of 2016, but kickoff their 2017 in an unusual way. Day6 announced their plans to make monthly single releases called Every Day6 and will also hold concerts to mark each release. Fans of Day6 rejoice as there’s something to look forward to every month. Indeed, the first Every Day6 album in January did not disappoint. The boys brought creativity and vocal excellence to this heartfelt album, thereby turning a new page on their rocker journey.

Track 1 – 아 왜 (I Wait)

Day6 really surprised me with the intro of I Wait, where the bending notes coupled with hip hop-esque synth beats had the illusion of a GOT7 song. But, their true colors soon shone through during the chorus as the pounding beat, heavy guitar, and roaring vocals bring out the rocker in all of us. I Wait is truly a unique piece of work not to be missed.

Track 2 – 겨울이 간다 (It’s Winter)

The next song is decidedly softer and gloomier in atmosphere. It’s Winter is a classic soft rock ballad juxtaposing clamoring electric guitar and heavy drum beats against melodramatic belting vocals, the kind that can rip your heart open with its stormy sadness. So, brace yourself as you fall deep into the loneliness of It’s Winter.
