The delightful ladies of Dal Shabet released their tenth mini album, FRI. SAT. SUN, on September 29. The foursome dabble in many different genres to keep the interest in this EP. With their first release after eight months, Dal Shabet are hoping to add some spunk to our weekend through FRI. SAT. SUN.
Track 1 – 속마음 (Ya Heart)
A vibrant opening with many synth sounds colliding together, Ya Heart is an attention-grabber. With a hip hop feel, the vocals and overall vibe are actually soft and smooth. There is an easy to follow hook that partners well with the drum rhythms for a pleasant listen.
Track 2 – 금토일 (FRI. SAT. SUN)
FRI. SAT. SUN is the title track. This track takes the hip hop vibe up a notch with catchy drum patterns and a killer bassline. With a tropical-like mix, this up-tempo song remains light until the chorus where it becomes more of a dance track. FRI. SAT. SUN is a bit aggressive, but Dal Shabet is able to keep their feminine charms.
Track 3 – 좋으니까 (Hard 2 Love)
Hard 2 Love is a Korean remake of one of their previous Japanese songs. This is a bright and sophisticated track with a fast paced chorus. However, the vocals lack originality and style as they remain in a falsetto pitch for the majority of the track.
Track 4 – Fly Boy
With a marching band feel, Fly Boy is more of a hip hop song in the opening. Full of hip hop and pop rhythms, it’s partnered with colorful band instruments to enhance the singing. The vocals are the most unique in the verses, but the song loses originality in the chorus as it becomes similar to other girl groups’ songs.
Track 5 – 썸, 뭐? (Some, What?)
Closing the mini-album with a youthful doo-wop track is Some, What?. This is a cutesy track that has many catchy aspects to grab listeners’ attention. Although there are some charming characteristics in Some, What?, overall it lands a little flat.
