Crush – ‘Wonderlust’ Album Review

Crush returns with a heartfelt EP, Wonderlust, which is a continuation of his previous release, Interlude. Wonderlust is the story of Crush’s life and journey that he tells in a calm and relaxing five tracks. This EP is very minimalistic and features smooth productions that allows Crush to show a side of him that he hasn’t before.

Track 1 – Wanderlust

Tambourines start us off on the jazz-filled journey that is Crush’s story. Wanderlust is a laid back, instrumental-based track with rich croons from Crush. There are very minimal vocals, but what we do hear is magical. This track features many musical elements such as synths, chimes, guitar strums, and strokes of light piano to set up the vibe for what is to come.

Track 2 – 2411

Continuing to paint a sensational story, 2411 is next. From the beginning, this track has sound elements to make the listener feel as if they’re outside. The mellowness that exudes from 2411 comes from the light vocals, tastes of Crush’s rapping, and a basic backtrack. Many people could relate to the vibe of this track as they travel on their own paths to figure out what life is all about.

Track 3 – 향수 (Nostalgia)

Nostalgia is more of a ballad full of wistfulness. Continuing with the light guitar, the emotions are prominent which allows the listener to feel the essence of thought. Hearing this side of Crush’s vocals, full of emotion, is very refreshing. Nostalgia is a short but memorable track.

Track 4 – 어떻게 지내 Fall

The tempo picks back up but keeps the sense of longing in the title track, Fall. There’s a nice, light kick bass drum rhythm that matches well with the emotional vocals about not forgetting a past lover. Crush does a great job at showcasing his vocals and emotions as he continues to ask “How are you without me?”

Track 5 – 아빠처럼 Like My Father

Wonderlust is closed with a gospel-sounding ballad in Like My Father. This song begins with a rich organ sound and later transitions to a beautiful, but still rich, piano. As this portion of Crush’s journey ends, he pours his emotions out in a song about wanting to be strong like his father over a simple instrumental.
