After the success brought by their previous track, Cinderella, CNBLUE proves that they are true musicians as they add a little more pop into their work with their latest album, Blueming. CNBLUE are certainly blooming and ready to give the fans more with a refreshing and modern twist to the pop rock genre.
Track 1 – 이렇게 예뻤나 (You’re So Fine)
You’re So Fine is a pop rock dance song with funky guitar and horns written and composed by Yonghwa himself. Though it’s an upbeat song with a bit of jazz, it gives you a love song feel because of the sweet vocals and lyrics. Picked by the members themselves to be the title track, You’re So Fine is a great way to start this album.
Track 2 – The Seasons
The Seasons is a lively, mostly acoustic track that gives off a country vibe. I must say, CNBLUE succeeded with their aim of creating a fresh album because it made me think of a bright sunny day and the feeling of being in love. With some doo-wops in the bridge, The Seasons instantly lightened up my mood when I heard it.
Track 3 – Young Forever
Being one of the options as a title track, Young Forever showcases CNBLUE’s wistful vocals and melody. The beat and piano sound like raindrops falling on the rooftop, supported by some synths and echoes as it slows down when they reach the bridge. Though it’s my least favorite song in the album because it sounds like it was taken from Yonghwa’s solo album, One Fine Day, this would be the perfect song if you’re on a road trip either with friends or your special someone.
Track 4 – Without You
The next track is another song that sounds like it was from Yonghwa’s solo album. Without You is a ballad with a piano and electric guitar combination. Different from the previous songs in this album, it’s a sad, slow rhythm song. When I listened to the chorus part where the tempo and the melody are building up, it reminded me of F.T. Island‘s song, Severely. This track is great for those times when you want to listen to a sad yet heartwarming song.
Track 5 – Stay Sober
Stay Sober is also a ballad track with a splash of country, but it’s not as slow as Without You. It’s a purely English song that starts off as an acoustic track, then goes off as an all-out rock ballad song when it reaches the chorus. It doesn’t really stay on my mind that much, but what made this song stand out amongst the others is the fact that the whole song is in English — which is only done by a few groups — and CNBLUE pulled it off really well.
