During the cutthroat battle among rookie debuts in the month of April, Black Hole entertainment’s BLACK6IX emerged as standout newbies with both raw emotions and retro flair. In what seems like a contemporary reinvention of the character-defining dance ballad fusion genre of the 2000s, BLACK6IX pays tribute to classic Kpop sounds in their debut album Please. Now, let’s hear it for the retro newcomers and their groovy tracks.
Track 1 – 제발 (Please)
BLACK6IX’s airy and haunting vocals and their angst-filled raps are backed with sentimental piano notes and rhythmic beats to create a classic Kpop song, like something you’d hear from the early 2010 era. Besides the nostalgic factor, Please is simply a catchy track that anyone can hum along to after just a couple listens.
Track 2 – Universe
Funky bass guitar strings and playful synths lighten up the mood of this melodic pop ballad number. BLACK6IX’s smooth and stable vocals shine through in Universe even more so compared to title track Please. However, though the track is pleasant enough on the ears, it’s nothing out of the ordinary for a Kpop group.
