Bangtan Boys’ highly anticipated sequel mini-album The Most Beautiful Moment In Life, Pt.2 is finally here. The album maintains the Bangtan Boys’ usual hip hop style but surprisingly gravitates more towards a melancholic vibe overall compared to part one of the series. With mostly hits and a few misses, The Most Beautiful Moment In Life, Pt.2 starts excitingly but ends a bit disappointingly. Nonetheless, this is an elegant album that fully expresses the boys’ youthful sentimentality in a bluesy and dreamy way.

Track 1 – Intro: Never Mindfeel4

The intro track Never Mind kicks off with slow rap accompanied by cheering fans in the and light guitar strings. The rock elements in the background and the intensity of the rap grow gradually, culminating to a opening statement full of powerful and aggressive attitude.

Track 2 – Runfeel5

Unique bluesy electric guitar plucking sound opens this hip hop ballad fusion song, Run. The energetic drum beats and weighty bass make it upbeat and catchy. Though the chorus may seem a bit repetitive sounding, it’s nicely offset by the tempo transition during the pre-chorus and bridge that brings out the boys’ melodic, softer vocals.

Track 3 – Butterflyfeel5

Butterfly is a mid-tempo R&B ballad song that leans even more on the sentimental side. With soft nylon guitar, winding melody, and Bangtan Boys’ airy vocals, Butterfly is a full dose of delicate emotional allure. The whole song paints a bleak yet dreamy image, describing the fear of disturbing the tranquility and losing sight of a beautiful “butterfly”.

Track 4 –  Whalien 52feel4

Here we have a more straightforward hip hop track with distinctive high-pitched sampling sounds commonly used during the early 2000s. The retro rhythms paired with the soulful chorus give Whalien 52 an old school remade new feeling — nostalgic yet modern at the same time.

Track 5 – Ma Cityfeel3

In Ma City, you can feel the merry vibe of Bangtan Boy’s funky alternative hip hop flavor. The groovy electric guitar and light percussion drum beats complement the bouncy vocals to add a cheery spirit to the song. It’s a fun number but not as much of a standout as the previous tracks.

Track 6 – 뱁새 (Silver Spoon)feel3

Silver Spoon is a hard-hitting party tune with a bit of toughness. It falls under the trap genre and its beat mixing is reminiscent of Dope from The Most Beautiful Moment In Life, Pt.1. Although the melody is much more repetitive and not nearly as addictive in comparison.

Track 7 – Skit: One Night In A Strange City

Not reviewed.

Track 8 – 고엽 (Autumn Leaves)feel2

Autumn Leaves is a mid-tempo R&B song with a bit of oriental mystique and somber mood. While the background music certainly evokes interest with unique synth sounds, the melody itself is rather monotonous and lackluster.

Track 9 – Outro: House Of Cardsfeel2

The outro track House Of Cards is a dramatic and theatrical alternative R&B song with a dark atmosphere to it. While the song may be ok as a standalone, it’s almost too depressing sounding to be the final punctuation to the theme of the most beautiful moments in life. Perhaps the boys are hinting at a sad transition to adulthood but nonetheless, this album was supposed to celebrate the goodness in life and not leave you feeling down.
