With the successful release of their last album Noir in late 2016, B.A.P reclaimed their title as the Kpop act with the most No.1 on Billboard World Album chart. This is a testament to the group’s continued efforts in reinventing themselves for the pursuit of making great music. This time, the boys bring a short mini-album, Rose, consisted for three tracks that are full of impact, but lacked lasting hookiness besides the title track.
Track 1 – Dystopia
Dystopia immediately kicks off Rose to an intense spirit with thumping electric guitar sounds and drum beats that gave it a heavy-metal rock taste. Coupled with the boys’ powerful vocals and edgy rap, it’s one hell of a “wake up call” to your auditory senses. However, while the intensity is there, there’s no standout elements that made it particularly memorable.
Track 2 – Wake Me Up
The muffled vocals that gradually becomes clear against a fast electric guitar jam gives Wake Me Up a sense of urgency that builds towards the boys bluesy pleading: “wake me up”. The R&B melody, growling rap, and clamorous EDM backtrack mix all work together to create an addictive ditty with a hint of impending danger.
Track 3 – Diamond 4 Ya
Unique synths filled with an air of mystique soon joined by rhythmic beats sum up Diamond 4 Ya’s backtrack. This hip hop inspired number mixes elements of trap and electro pop to sound contemporary and posh. Unfortunately, despite its stylish mixing, the chorus soon grow a bit repetitive sounding.
