Kpop is known for its eye-popping, mind-blowing, and intricate dances. And 2015 did not disappoint with many memorable boy group choreographies from idol group debuts to comebacks. You can see how Kpop is evolving by the many dance styles displayed in their routines this past year. We’ve selected eight of the most standout boy group choreographies in 2015 (in no particular order) for you to enjoy.
2PM – 우리집 (My House)
The choreography of My House may not be as showy as some of the other dances mentioned later but it does a great job at telling the song’s story with key gestures to show how 2PM‘s enticing you to come to their home. The routine is simple and smooth, but still has notable groovy moves that are signatures of 2PM. This suave and sexy dance is cleanly executed.
Bangtan Boys – 쩔어 (Dope)
Dope is full of energy and hip hop finesse. It’s one of the most exciting Kpop dances of 2015 to see live (which I had the opportunity of) due to the choreography’s fast, flashy, and complex moves. How the boys are able to do this dance and stay in perfect sync with each other will forever baffle me. Not to mention, BTS seems to have fun while doing it too.
EXO – Call Me Baby
Arguably one of the best Kpop choreographies to date, Call Me Baby commands your attention with sharp and clean moves. The choreography is not only fun and visually appealing, but also difficult as per usual from EXO. The dance uses funky, charismatic, and uncommon disco-like moves to make it one of the most remarkable Kpop routines.
GOT7 – 니가 하면 (If You Do)
If You Do is GOT7‘s breakout song and the most mature sounding song to date. The choreography is also sophisticated and shows the growth of the group. The dance features complex footwork moves and does a great job at conveying the emotional angst while being interesting to watch. Members Yugyeom and Junior played a big role in choreographing this routine, which makes it even more impressive.
Infinite – Bad
Known for their crisp and coordinated dance moves, Infinite never disappoints with their top notch dance skills and synchronization. The dance exhibits great musicality that matches well to the key beats throughout the song. Bad‘s choreography is masculine with a hint of sexy. The opening to the routine is particularly memorable with the members joining in on the dance in groups sequences.
SHINee – View
View is a new style of dancing for SHINee, but they aced it proving that they can handle anything. This dance isn’t as hard-hitting and splashy as compared to other SHINee dances. The moves in this dance are a lot more fluid coupled with subtle gestures to add a pop here and there. View brings an ingenious and polished choreography style that fits well with the song’s Europop ambiance.
Teen Top – Ah Ah (아침부터 아침까지)
As another idol group known for their harmony while dancing, Teen Top brings their fancy footwork in Ah Ah. It’s truly amazing for the six members to be in total sync with footwork moves this fast. Another unusual thing that makes Ah Ah a notable choreography: the boys are in a single line for a majority of the routine, which is not common among Kpop dances.
VIXX – 사슬 (Chained Up)
When it comes to their choreography, VIXX have a style all their own — sensual with a dose of mystery. And Chained Up may be their most mature piece yet, with subtle yet literal moves that match up perfectly with the lyrics of the song. VIXX remains in sync while handling interesting formation changes. The most memorable part of the routine for me is when they do a peel-off formation change with a body roll move.
