Speaking of relationships, Korean drama are a master at portraying them. Beyond the sizzling romance though, bromances are often one of the best ingredients that make a drama great. So, as we bid goodbye to 2016, it’s time to pay tribute to the best Kdrama bromances from last year.
Park Hae Young & Lee Jae Han
This cross-time bromance was fraught with emotional rollercoasters and thrilling moments, through which their partnership developed. There is such a natural bond between them as both are unequivocally determined to fight for justice. And though they’ve never officially met, their teamwork via the brief moments on walkie talkie is flawless. Their relationship blossomed to such a deep appreciation for each other that it was hard to watch them be separated.
Lee Hae Joon & Han Hong Nan
Yes, this is most certainly a bromance couple. The ahjussis embodied in young bodies easily make one of the most memorable pairings of 2016, in a dumb and dumber sort of way. Their comical interactions, goofy antics, silly plans, and equal desire to protect their loved ones brought us endless laughters and tears alike. It’s impossible to miss the camaraderie that made them so good together.
Kim Young Ho, Jang Joon Song, & Kim Ji Woong
The hyung-dongsaeng relationship between Young Ho and his two buddies was delightful to watch. These three balance each other out and make a great team of fitness trainers. Ji Woong’s hyperactive, loud, and overly friendly personality is the perfect countermeasure to Yong Ho’s prickly character and Joon Sung’s more reserved nature. They are like the three musketeers, always together, always supportive of each other, for better or for worse.
Yoo Si Jin and Seo Dae Young
These two make quite an odd pair, with Si Jin being a talkative jokester, and Dae Young being the physical embodiment of the straight-face emoticon. But their polarizing differences are what made them such a great combo. Whether they’re risking their lives on the battlefield, or trying to dodge their girlfriends’ wraths, their unwavering loyalty keep them in sync with each other at all times.
Park Do Kyung and Lee Jin Sang
I’d rate this bromance as the most fun pairing of the year. Do Kyung with his calm persona and dry humor, coupled with Jin Sang’s overall silliness and loudness create incredible synergies that make them hilarious to watch. They embody the best mixture of yin and yang because of how much they obviously understand and compliment each other.
Lee Yeong and Kim Byung Yeon
These two are an unlikely bromance pair. Usually, the relationship between a prince and his bodyguard in dramas is either not officially recognized or difficult to maintain. But these two manage to find a crack between court politics, social status differences, revenge plots, and give us tear-jerking friendship that make us fall in love with them more.
Lee Hwa Shin & Go Jung Won
This is got to be one of the most realistic bromance portrayals. These two best friend turned rivals has a long history together and care deeply about each other. But boys being boys, they’re constantly competing and trying to one-up each other, especially when it comes to girls. Hence, we benefit from their comedic, childish, and jealousy-filled love tug-of-war. But as best friends do, they always make-up at the end.
Baek Sung Il & Yang Jung Do
Another pair that seem to be at odds with other initially but ends up producing a sweet and endearing bromance. Sung Il’s upright and by the books, while Jung Do’s sly. Their quibbles, antics, and even the fighting scenes exude such childish playfulness. They certainly make an adorable pair despite their age differences.
